Branding the Cape as the leading world-class learning region in Africa

The Learning Cape brand is a distinct education and learning brand that aims to harness the efforts and energies of all citizens in the Western Cape province. The brand portrays life transformation – moving through life and in the process, changing the nature of who we are through education and lifelong learning. The brand distinguishes the historically vibrant and creative nature of the Cape personality: one which represents the collaborative and complex connections of individuals, groups and institutions across all spheres of society towards the pursuit of lifelong learning for all.

What we are striving to achieve?

The Provincial and Local Government define us as a Special Purpose Vehicle to promote and popularize education and lifelong learning across all sectors of society. We therefore endeavour to listen, influence and inspire citizens to engage in continual learning. We aim to build a brand for an education and lifelong learning culture across the province.

Our vision is to develop the Western Cape as a learning province-region by promoting within that province the culture of lifelong learning within a framework of human rights and democracy with a commitment to increasing access to learning for all people, with emphasis on the poor and needy.

Our mission is to develop a learning province - region by popularizing, promoting and reinforcing a lifelong learning culture.

Our goal is to ensure that all citizens of the Western Cape value the importance of learning by engaging in lifelong learning to improve the quality of lives of all citizens within the province.

Our objectives are:

• Research and develop an integrated, inter-sectoral learning
model for a learning province, including developing quality,
quantity and process indicators;
• Mobilise political will and build partnerships amongst social and
economic sectors to participate in developing and applying the
Learning Cape model to their policy, planning and provision of
education and training;
• Promote the development, implementation and maintenance of a
provincial - Human Resource Development strategy;
• Implement projects such as the Learning Cape Festival and
develop guidelines and processes for their sustainability;
• Identify appropriate databases, store, manage and disseminate
information relevant to learning activities; and
• Solicit, collect and distribute funds so as to enable the above.
