Jamborees

The Jamborees Project forms part of the Social Transformation Programme of the Office of the Premier.  Jamborees is a concept that was coined in the 1920, which meant a nutshell ‘the largest gathering of youth in Scouts.  The derivation of the word may be from Swahili, ‘Jambo’ meaning Hello.  For the Office of the Premier, Jamborees is the vehicle to take service delivery to the people.  There are 26 transformation areas in the Western Cape, areas that are extremely poor and situated beyond the boundaries of easy access to public services, which are a right and not a privilege.  From the 13 August 2008 until March 2009, government departments will create a day one-stop-shop in each of these areas with particular focus on providing a range of government services including social services grants applications, and the registration of documents such as identity documents and birth certificates.
Included in this service will be information about how to start your own small business, information about the Expanded Public Works Programme for unemployed people, information about education services in each area: fee-free schools, where to go for information about any education service, information about government programmes to fight drug abuse and crime and information about health service in your area.
